Job description

Who We Are

Open Government Products (OGP) operates like a startup within the government; We are a fast-paced, dynamic team of engineers, designers, and product managers dedicated to public good. We autonomously identify opportunities to solve public problems using tech, rapidly prototype, and launch solutions—from citizen apps to automating public agency operations. Embracing an open-sourced and flat hierarchy, we cut through bureaucracy to focus on real-world, user-centric innovations that drive change.

About FindX

Each day, countless items are misplaced at Singapore’s land checkpoints - from identity cards and travel documents to personal belongings. Yet today’s recovery process remains manual, laborious and a frustrating experience for many.

FindX is a new initiative launched to transform this experience. FindX was ideated and developed earlier this year during OGP’s annual hackathon, Hack for Public Good. The solution is currently being piloted at Woodlands Checkpoint, serving more than 200 officers from Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

FindX’s mission is to reunite every lost item with its rightful owner, using technology, human-centred design, and practical operational insight. Starting with land checkpoints, we aim to build a national lost-and-found infrastructure that is fast, secure, and trusted.

About the Role

We’re looking for a thoughtful and driven Senior / Lead Software Engineer to be a founding engineer on the FindX team. You will play a critical role in shaping the product from the ground up - from system design to deployment, from building user-facing features to driving adoption with stakeholders.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy building 0 to 1 products, working across disciplines, and applying technology to solve real-world pain points. You’ll work closely with PMs, designers, policy officers, and frontline agencies to create solutions that are not only technically sound, but operationally viable and easy to use.

As a Senior / Lead Software Engineer, you’ll be expected to lead development independently, make thoughtful trade-offs to balance speed and quality, and guide other engineers through technical planning and code reviews. You’ll work with the PM and designer to identify opportunities and craft the product direction. Overall, you’ll have the autonomy, ownership and satisfaction of seeing your work deliver impact at national scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable production-ready software across the stack - from frontend components to backend services and infrastructure.

  • Work closely with PMs, designers, and officers on the ground to identify opportunities, scope features, test hypotheses, and ship solutions that solve real pain points.

  • Make informed trade-offs that balance long-term maintainability with speed of delivery, while upholding security and reliability.

  • Break down large features into manageable tasks, provide technical guidance to other engineers, and maintain a high bar for code quality and best practices.

  • Set up robust monitoring, alerting, and testing practices to ensure FindX is production-ready and dependable.

  • Set, measure and achieve relevant objectives, aligning team efforts with overall strategic goals.

  • Advocate and explain technical ideas and solutions to other government agencies.

  • Identify opportunities that improve public good and design innovative systems overcoming both bureaucratic and technological constraints.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, and backend development (Next.js, Node.js or similar).

  • Experience designing REST APIs and working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.

  • Experience in startups or fast-paced environments; proven ability to succeed in dynamic settings and manage shifting priorities with sometimes challenging stakeholders.

  • Experience in technical leadership, guiding software teams and setting high standards while mentoring engineers.

  • Experience with secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC), including CI/CD processes, Git, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and deploying applications to cloud environments.

  • Excellent communication skills for articulating technical concepts and ideas, especially to non-tech audience.

  • A passion for public service, driving impactful changes, and improving how technology serves society.

Overall we look for people who have ability, initiative, good communication, and most importantly, a passionate heart for public good. Don’t hesitate to apply, even if you might not possess all the skills and qualifications!
